Seen in Cèline’s 2016 Resort Collection, the babouche was named the ‘it’ shoe of this year. Now guests of La Sultana can discover how the shoes are made, meet with Moroccan artisans and take home their own pair of custom-designed babouches.
Guests will be taken on an exclusive tour of the Souks, visiting a specialised babouche artisan who will design and create a bespoke pair of made-to-measure shoes. This will be combined with a guided visit of the Medina to discover cultural highlights including the Koutoubia Minaret and Place Jemaa El Fna.
An optional visit to the leather tanneries is available; a fascinating eye-opener into the work that goes into leather production. Guests can watch how the animal hides (normally goat, cow and camel) are cleaned, dried and dyed to produce world-class leather.
The package also includes a private guided shopping tour of the beautiful Jardin Majorelle’s designer stores. Guests will learn about the history of the babouche, from its inception in Morocco to its popularity in 17th century Paris.
After a day wandering the city, guests will enjoy a luxurious foot massage at La Sultana’s sumptuous spa. They can then pop on their new slippers, retire to the rooftop garden and take in stunning views of the Atlas Mountains. Ultra-luxury La Sultana Marrakech, located in the heart of the Medina, is an oasis of calm, away from the bustle of the Kasbah.
La Sultana’s onsite boutique showcases a selection of hand-embroidered, oriental-designed babouches, making an ideal gift for friends or family back home. A complimentary leather indoor pair is included in each room for guests to keep.
Gucci, Wang and Victoria Beckham have all jumped on the babouche bandwagon, offering up their own twist on the style. With this package, fashionistas can get ahead of the trend and slip on their slippers. Not only are they steeped in authenticity, but they also come with memories of a Babouche Break in Marrakech.
The Babouche Break package costs from 13,380 MAD / approx. £960 per couple for a three-night stay at La Sultana Marrakech on a B&B basis in a Prestige Deluxe room (two sharing). Included in the package is a half-day Souk tour, a half-day Majorelle Gardens shopping tour including a VIP ticket and horse carriage transfer, a 30-minute foot ritual, plus a complimentary pair of indoor babouches. The tailor-made babouches come at an additional cost and will vary depending on design.
