The GoSleep pod, a Finnish design by Short Rest Solutions Ltd., is an ergonomic seat that can be turned into a bed. Each pod has a cover that eliminates light and protects customers from the noise and distraction of passers by; they also have space beneath the seat to store hand luggage.
The pods are being installed following a successful three-month trial that received overwhelmingly positive reviews from customers. The pods are the latest innovative addition to Helsinki Airport which already hosts a Book Swap point, free art gallery and a traditional Finnish sauna, among others, for passengers.
In 2014, SleepingInAirports.com, which evaluates sleeping options at airports, selected Helsinki Airport as the world's third most sleep-friendly airport.
“We have worked extensively with Finavia to enable smooth and pleasant transfers at Helsinki Airport as quick as 35 minutes. However for those with a bit more time between flights, the GoSleep pods introduced by our colleagues at the airport are a fantastic addition for customers who would like a quick break and power nap before their next flight,” said Juha Järvinen, Chief Commercial Officer of Finnair.
Helsinki Airport is operated by Finavia Corporation. It is the main hub for Finnair which flies between Asia, Europe and North America with an emphasis on fast connections via Helsinki, carrying more than nine million passengers annually and connecting 15 cities in Asia with more than 60 destinations in Europe.
