Finnair flies over 9 million passengers each year between Europe, Asia and North America with an emphasis on fast connections at its efficient hub in Helsinki, which has three runways. Connection times are as short as 35minutes.

From the UK, Finnair flies five times a day between London Heathrow and Helsinki; twice a day between Manchester and Helsinki; and passengers also benefit from two codeshare flights a day on BA from Heathrow to Helsinki.

In 2013, Finnair carried 9.3million passengers, 5.7% more than the year before. Passengers were choosing Finnair because of its expanding route network, with 13 destinations in Asia and over 60 destinations in Europe. Asian destinations include Hong Kong, Beijing, Xian, Chongqing, Shanghai, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Singapore, Bangkok and Hanoi, making it easier for travellers to transit quickly via Helsinki.

Due to its geographical location, it is almost as quick for UK passengers to transit via Helsinki to reach many Asian destinations, with London Heathrow-Beijing being just 13hours 35minutes via the Finnish capital for example.

On the ground, Finnair has beautifully-designed lounges in Helsinki and is launching its new Premium Lounge, complete with Finnish sauna, this August. It is easy for passengers to transit between flights as there is only one terminal.

In the air, Finnair’s Business Class has won many awards and, on long haul, includes a 200cm long horizontal fully-flat flat bed. Business Class passengers can enjoy signature menus created by two of Finland’s famous chefs, Pekka Terävä and Tomi Björk and individual video-screen entertainment.

Economy passengers flying long-haul benefit from comfortable and spacious seats, as well as award-winning and multi-lingual crew.

Finnair has also teamed up with Finnish design house Marimekko for a collection of crockery and textiles which feature their classic patterns and designs. It is specially designed to add a light and fresh visual dimension to the onboard experience, while also reducing aircraft weight.

The airline currently has 57 aircraft in its fleet, operated by Finnair and Flybe Nordic, with the average age being just seven years.

Finnair is the European launch customer for the next-generation, eco-smart Airbus A350 XWB aircraft which is due to enter service in 2015. Finnair has 12 on order, with five due to be delivered next year, three in 2016 and four in 2017.

With a modern fleet, straight routings from Helsinki, and “green landings” due to Helsinki having three runways, enabling the majority of flights to use continuous descent approach and not have to circle overhead, Finnair is expected to reduce its emissions by 41% per seat between 1999 and 2017.

The only Nordic carrier with a 4-star Skytrax ranking, Finnair has also won the World Airline Award for Best Airline Northern Europe for the past four years running.
