Malaysia Airlines will pass on even greater savings to passengers following Chancellor George Osborne’s announcement that Air Passenger Duty is to be scrapped for children under 12 travelling in Economy class from 01 May 2015.

Air Passenger Duty – the UK Government tax that is charged on all passengers departing from a UK airport – is being reduced in two separate phases. From 01 April 2015, Air Passenger Duty for adults and children travelling in Economy class on flights from the UK to Malaysia and other long-distance destinations will be reduced from GBP 97 to GBP 71, saving GBP 26 per ticket. Then from 01 May 2015, Air Passenger Duty for children under 12 travelling in Economy class will be removed altogether.

Adult return Economy class all-in fares from the UK to destinations throughout Malaysia and Australasia will be reduced by GBP 26 to reflect the Air Passenger Duty change, with the following prices available from Malaysia Airlines from 01 April 2015: Kuala Lumpur from GBP 839 (reduced from GBP 865); Kota Kinabalu from GBP 833 (reduced from GBP 859); Perth from GBP 860 (reduced from GBP 886); and Auckland from GBP 994 (reduced from GBP 1020).

On top of these Air Passenger Duty reductions, from 15 December 2014, Malaysia Airlines’ is reducing child fares a further five percent from 85% of the full adult Economy class fare, to 80%. Combined with the elimination of Air Passenger Duty, a child’s fare from London to Kuala Lumpur will start at just GBP 675.20 from 01 May 2015 (saving GBP 120.20 compared to the price of GBP 795.40 before 15 December 2014).

This could mean significant savings for families. From 01 May 2015, a family of four (two adults and two children under 12) could save a total of GBP 292.40 (almost ten percent*) on Economy class flights to Kuala Lumpur compared to prices before 15 December 2015.

Malaysia Airlines is the only carrier to offer a twice daily non-stop A380 full service link between the UK and Malaysia. UK passengers can also take advantage of frequent onward connections to destinations across Malaysia, Asia and Australasia.
