This summer, Parisian palace Hotel Le Bristol will welcome spectacular installations from two internationally acclaimed contemporary artists Daniel Buren and Hicham Berrada in association with gallery Kamel Mennour. Timed to coincide with the launch of Buren’s hotly anticipated transformation of Fondation Louis Vuitton, and the opening of Kamel Mennour’s third gallery space on the nearby Avenue Matignon in May, Le Bristol’s two temporary displays will invite guests to see the hotel’s iconic spaces afresh and see works by these leading artists.

Daniel Buren - Une Pause Coloreé
Erecting one of his signature coloured-glass open pergolas in Le Bristol’s leafy garden, French artist Daniel Buren will invite guests to walk through his site-specific ‘Une Pause Coloreé’, which will cast the colonnade that faces 3 Michelin-starred Epicure in jewel-toned shadows and reflections. Open from 25th May, Buren’s installation will catch all the bright and sparkling light of summer, recalling the artist’s epic displays at Monumenta, Le Grand Palais (2012), and candied courtyard ‘Les Deux Plateaux’, a permanent fixture of Paris’ Palais Royal since 1986. Anticipating the artist’s exhibition at the new Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris this summer, Le Bristol’s playful structure is set to create one of the happiest and most talked about city spaces of the year.

Hicham Berrada – Abstract Projections at Le Bar du Bristol
Meanwhile, the hotel’s interiors will be transformed by Moroccan-born wunderkind Hicham Berrada whose ethereal compositions will be projected onto Le Bar du Bristol’s large mirrored screen throughout the summer months. Echoing the ‘temporal magic’ evoked by the hotel’s master mixologist, Maxime Hoerth, Berrada’s entrancing films will add a mystical mood to the proceedings. Following his recent inclusion in Le Centre Pompidou’s prestigious permanent collection, Berrada’s installation at Le Bristol marks a young artist whose star is on the rise following his first solo exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo in 2013, and residency at Florence’s fabled Villa Medici in 2014.

Le Bristol – Hotel Meets Gallery
For three years Le Bristol has held events of this kind, exhibiting the most exciting contemporary projects in the hotel’s bar and garden. From October 2013 to July 2014, Le Bristol hosted artists Adrien Missika, Louidgi Beltrame, Christophe Herreros, Philippe Terrier-Hermann, Xavier Veillan, Ange Leccia and Isabelle Cornaro. Between September 2014 and March 2015 Galleria Continua and Galerie Perrotin curated Le Bar du Bristol’s video program, showcasing Daniel Buren, Ai Weiwei Anish Kapoor, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Hans Op de Beeck, Jesper Just, Laurent Grasso, Gianni Motti, John Henderson and JR. In April, curator Timothy Chaillou and artist Matthieu Mercier, in partnership with the Piasa auction house, showed their personal selection of videos, including works by Claude Lévêque, Olivier Dollinger, Pierre Bismuth, Guillaume Paris, Pascal Goblot and Natacha Lesueur. Finally, in October 2015 the hotel’s curator Florence Parot created a programme around the city of Beirut, inviting artists Mehdi Meddaci, Lorde Selys and Marcel Dinahet, in partnership with the Tourist Office of Lebanon.
