Sited on the beautiful Majorda Beach in south Goa, the five star, Alila Diwa Goa, is offering guests the chance to restore the delicate balance between mind, body and spirit, with a new Ayurveda detox program. The new retreats, launching this month, will be led and designed by Dr. Arjita Kumari, the resort’s first permanent in-house expert.

The 'Ayurvedic Detox Detour' programme at Spa Alila has been designed to cleanse, restore and nourish. The aim is to give the body and mind a complete overhaul, creating internal balance while giving a boost of energy and vitality.

The program is a holistic approach towards balancing three wheels, physical, physiological and psychological. Over a course of a week, all aspects of health and wellbeing are covered, with each element of the retreat completely customised depending on the needs of the individual.

To begin the programme, guests will undergo an in-depth consultation, covering nutrition, health and stress, followed by sessions of pranic healing, hypnotherapy, daily yoga, meditation and exercise. This will be combined with nutritionally balanced meals, juices and Ayurvedic supplements, daily workshops, massages and cooking classes. All elements have been put in place to ensure that post retreat; participants are armed with the skills to create an on-going, all encompassing, life change.

Ayurvedic is an ancient system of Indian medicine, it practises are based around the human body - which is made up of five basic elements - ether, air, fire, water and earth. These five components are used to create doshas, of which there are three different types, with each person falling into one of three categories. Vatha Dosha is the combination of ether and air, Pitta Dosha is the combination of fire and water and Kapha Dosha is the combination of water and earth.

The dosha of the guest will dictate their programme, as each person will require different exercises, treatments and diet. Diet plays an important part in the process, the Ayurvedic diet focuses on fresh seasonal produce, without pesticides, additives and other chemicals, all sourced as locally as possible.

The diet is based around clean eating, supplemented with a range of detoxifying and rejuvenating juices throughout the day. The Ayurvedic detox programme is hugely beneficial for the body, increasing vitality and stamina, encouraging weight loss and improving digestive functions. The mind benefits from a greater sense of peace, heightened mental clarity, focus, concentration and memory. Overall well-being relies on keeping the doshas balanced.

Dr. Arjita Kumari recently joined Alila Diwa Goa as the resort’s permanent in-house expert. She has a Bachelor's degree in Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery, with over eight years experience in the field. In addition she is a qualified shivananda yoga teacher, hypnotherapist and Ayurvedic dietician. She’s also skilled in Pranic healing, which is an energy healing system. Prana, meaning energy, can be used to heal ailments in the body by manipulating the person's energy field, similar to acupuncture and yoga. Pranic healing treats the "energy body" which in turn affects the "physical body”.
